How do I update my account information?

Need to change account information in your Shakepay account? You can now do it from the mobile app!

How to update my date of birth or full name in the app?

Follow these steps to update your date of birth or full name:

  1. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

  2. Open the Shakepay app

  3. Click Settings at the bottom right of the home screen

  4. Click Account settings

  5. Click Profile information

  6. A pop up message will appear and require you enable biometric authentication first

  7. Click Open device settings

  8. Enable biometric authentication

  9. Once unlocked, click Change next to the information you need to update (Name or Date of birth) in the Profile modification section.

  10. Enter your correct full legal name and/or date of birth and click on Update

  11. Once your name has been updated, click on Verify identity again and submit your ID.

Please note that you are only allowed to update this information once and make sure that the name you enter matches the full legal name and date of birth you have listed on your government issued photo ID.

Once your documents are reviewed, you will receive an email regarding your verification status.


How to update my Shaketag? (your shaketag is your username)

You can follow these steps to update your shaketag in the Shakepay app:

  1. Update your Shakepay app to the latest version.

  2. Open the Shakepay app.

  3. Click the Settings wheel at the bottom right of the home screen.

  4. Click Account Settings.

  5. Click Profile Modification.

  6. Enable biometric authentication first when the pop up message appears.

  7. Click Open device settings.

  8. Enable biometric authentication.

  9. Click Change next to your Shaketag in the profile modification section.

  10. Click Got it on the next screen.

  11. Enter your new Shaketag.

  12. Click Update Shaketag.

Please note that as a result of changing your Shaketag, your security question when funding your account has also changed to match. Be sure to update this in your banking app before you send your next e-Transfer!

  • Once changed, other customers can't claim your old shaketags. 


  • Shaketag can only be changed twice in the app. If you want to change it again, please contact the support team.

  • You can switch back to your old shaketag anytime but this counts as one of the two times you can change it in the app.

Heads up, you won’t be able to send money out from your account for 24 hours after changing your shaketag.


How to update my occupation?

You can follow these steps to update your occupation:

  1. Update your Shakepay app to the latest version.

  2. Open the Shakepay app

  3. Click Settings at the bottom right of the home screen

  4. Click Account Settings

  5. Click Profile Modification

  6. A pop up message will appear and require you enable biometric authentication first. Click Open device settings

  7. Enable biometric authentication

  8. Once unlocked, click Change next to your occupation in the profile modification section.

  9. Start typing your occupation and select the closest match from the dropdown menu

  10. Click Update

Your occupation has now been updated!


How to update my residential address?

You can follow these steps to update your residential address:

  1. Update your Shakepay app to the latest version.

  2. Open the Shakepay app

  3. Click Settings at the bottom right of the home screen

  4. Click Account Settings

  5. Click Profile information

  6. A pop up message will appear and require you enable biometric authentication first. Click Open device settings

  7. Enable biometric authentication

  8. Once unlocked, click Change next to your residential address in the profile modification section.

  9. Start typing your new residential address and select your address

  10. Click Update

Your residential address has now successfully been updated!
