How to buy crypto in the app?

Follow these steps to buy crypto in the app:

  1. Open the Shakepay app and log in.

  2. Click on the blue arrows at the bottom in the middle.

  3. Input the amount you wish to buy or choose one of the quick buy buttons.

  4. Click Review Order.

  5. Click Buy Bitcoin.

How to sell crypto in the app?

Follow these steps to sell crypto:

  1. Open the Shakepay app and log in.

  2. Click on the blue arrows at the bottom in the middle.

  3. Click Buy Bitcoin at the top and toggle to Sell Bitcoin (or Sell Ethereum).

  4. Input the amount of crypto you would like to sell for CAD.

  5. Click on Review order.

  6. Click on Sell bitcoin.

Buying and selling on our website

To buy or sell crypto on our website, please follow these steps:

  1. Click the "Buy & sell" button on the left

  2. Select which currency (BTC, ETH, or CAD) you want to purchase/sell in the From field.

  3. Select which currency (BTC, ETH, or CAD) you want to purchase/sell in the To field.

  4. Input the amount.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. Click Review order.

  7. Click Confirm.

Note: The main "Wallets" screen will display the CAD equivalent of your funds with our mid-market price. The "Buy & sell" screen will display your funds with either the buy or sell price with our fee included.

After converting your funds to CAD, you can send a quick e-transfer to your personal bank account which is also available online.

Troubleshooting tips

I'm unable to sell my crypto!

Check these suggestions to see if any apply as to why you can't sell your crypto:

  • If you are traveling abroad, your Shakepay account may have limited functionality.

    If you receive a message saying “This action can’t be performed from outside of Canada”, please contact our Customer Support Team and we will be happy to assist.

  • If you are using a VPN, turn it off and try selling again.

  • Make sure you completed your risk profile if you are getting a message saying "Oops... Unable to perform transaction, please reach out to support"

  • Make sure you selected the right crypto and action at the top. If you are selling BTC, you will want to toggle to "Bitcoin" under Asset and toggle to "Sell" under Action.

  • Make sure you are inputting an amount which corresponds your crypto balance. You can find your current crypto balance at the top right of the Buy/sell Screen.

  • Make sure your account is not limited. If your account is limited, please reach out to support and click the "My account is limited" button at the beginning of chat.
