I was scammed, what now?

Updated over a week ago

In the event that you are scammed, here are some steps you can take to report the incident and secure your account.

If you believe you have been scammed, here are some steps you can take to report the incident and secure your account.

  1. If you believe that your account has been compromised, enable the emergency Iock feature. Found in the settings of the mobile app, this feature temporarily prevents any transactions from taking place.

  2. Change the password to your Shakepay account if you believe it has been compromised.

  3. We recommend reporting the incident to your local law enforcement department. We are happy to collaborate with law enforcement, for any further assistance, please reach out to us through our in-app support chat.

  4. If you want to report an instance of fraud, or if you need more information, we would also invite you to contact The Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre (Toll Free 1-888-495-8501).

  5. For any information needed to file a report, you can request to have your transaction history sent to you from the settings of the mobile app by selecting request transaction summary. This will send an email including an excel file with the list of transactions you have made.

It is important to remember that crypto transactions are irreversible and once Bitcoin or Ethereum has been sent out of your account, Shakepay is not able to access that transaction on your behalf.

Please see our other FAQs for more information on types of scams and how to spot phishing attempts.
