Why does my Shakepay BTC wallet address change?
Rotating wallet addresses are a best practice to ensure security and privacy. This minimizes the risk of your transactions being associated with each other, improving anonymity and protecting sensitive transactional data.
What you need to know about your BTC and ETH wallet
You will receive a new Bitcoin address after each use.
You can still use previously assigned addresses, but it’s recommended not to reuse Bitcoin addresses for privacy and security reasons.- Shakepay supports a variety of BTC wallet address types: SegWit (default), Legacy, Wrapped SegWit, and Taproot, each designed for specific compatibility and efficiency needs.
Note: Starting May 29, 2023, all new BTC addresses generated are Native SegWit.
Please reach out to our Customer Support Team if you require a Wrapped SegWit wallet address.
Ethereum addresses, however, will not change each time you send ETH to your Shakepay wallet.
Will my old Shakepay wallet addresses still work?
For Bitcoin wallets, your previous wallet addresses will continue to be supported.
Any funds sent to an old Bitcoin address will still be received. However, we recommend using the newly assigned Bitcoin addresses for optimal service.
Important: On January 05, 2023, all customers were assigned a new Ethereum wallet address.
As of July 01, 2023, Shakepay only supports transactions to this new address.
This means that any ETH transactions sent to your old address after July 01, 2023, will result in permanent loss of funds.
What if I’m sending BTC from a wallet that doesn’t support Native SegWit?
Shakepay offers Legacy and Taproot BTC wallet addresses in addition to SegWit and Wrapped SegWit addresses. Legacy addresses are suitable for systems requiring traditional compatibility but may incur higher transaction fees. Taproot addresses provide enhanced privacy and efficiency for advanced Bitcoin use cases.
If you are sending BTC from a platform or wallet that doesn’t support Native SegWit, you can locate and use a Wrapped SegWit address in the "Add Funds" section of the Shakepay app. Alternatively, you may contact our Customer Support Team for assistance.
To locate and select your wallet address type in the Shakepay app:
Open the Shakepay app and log in to your account.
Navigate to the "Add Funds" section and choose Bitcoin (BTC).
The displayed wallet address will default to Native SegWit, but options like Legacy and Wrapped SegWit can be selected as required.
Users with advanced requirements such as Taproot addresses can request these via support.
Which networks and tokens does Shakepay support?
Shakepay supports only Bitcoin (BTC) on the Bitcoin network and Ethereum (ETH) on the Ethereum network.
Shakepay does not support tokens like USDC or USDT on any other blockchain networks. Sending ETH or any other token to your Shakepay address using an unsupported network (such as BEP or ARB) will result in a permanent loss of funds.
This also applies when withdrawing funds from Shakepay.
If you’re unsure, please contact our Customer Support Team for assistance and we will be happy to help!
